Spring in Greensboro, North Carolina, feels like the city is waking up from a long nap. Dogwoods and azaleas explode with color, patios fill up, and locals swap winter coats for light jackets and picnic blankets. Whether you live here or you are visiting for a weekend, Spring is JOY in the triad and you will LOVE this season!
Everyone thinks we are Greensboro because we are GREEN... and although that is not the origin of our city's name, it's not exactly "wrong" to lean on that interpretation. Let us tell you our favorite things to do, outside...
Wander Through Greensboro’s Gardens and Green Spaces
Greensboro more than earns its “green” name in the spring. Our gardens and parks are some of the city’s biggest stars this time of year.
Greensboro Arboretum: This free public garden features more than a dozen plant collections, winding walking paths, and themed spaces like a Rose Garden and Japanese-style areas that pop with color in March, April, and May. It is perfect for a slow stroll, photography, or a low-key date.
The Bog Garden at Benjamin Park: A raised boardwalk carries you over seven acres of natural wetlands, with stone paths, tall trees, and a small waterfall known as Serenity Falls providing a peaceful soundtrack. In spring, you will spot new greenery, migratory birds, and plenty of local wildlife.
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park: Part historic site, part scenic retreat, this Revolutionary War battlefield offers miles of wooded trails, driving paths, and monuments that are especially pretty as leaves return and wildflowers appear. It is a good choice if you want both fresh air and a bit of history in one outing.
In Winston, you will love the Reynolda Botanical Gardens. A historic, 129 acre botanical gardens featuring greenhouses (that sometimes have plant sales), woodlands, and an art museum. All part of the AJ Reynolds Estate, you will want to bring your camera and a friend because they are exquisite.
These spots are beautiful on their own, but together they can fill an entire spring weekend with walks, photos, and picnics.
Shop and Snack at the Farmers Curb Market, the Corner Farmers Market, and the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market
Saturday mornings are made for the foodies with an amazing assortment of Farmers Markets. Once spring produce starts rolling in you can enjoy the Curb Market, Housed in a historic building, which brings together local farmers, bakers, and makers selling everything from strawberries and greens to pastries and handmade crafts. The Corner market is a smaller, local market open Saturdays from 8-12 with a very special community vibe. And the Piedmont Farmers Market the showcases amazing flowers, plants, honey, baked goods, and produce.
Spring is prime time for:
Fresh greens, herbs, and early-season vegetables
Strawberries and other local fruit as the weather warms
Cut flowers and starter plants for your own garden
Beyond the goods you take home, the market is a community hub—expect to run into neighbors, hear live music on some days, and pick up ideas for seasonal recipes.
Enjoy Downtown Parks, Public Art, and Events
Downtown Greensboro gets more vibrant as temperatures rise. Outdoor spaces fill with families, office workers on lunch break, and visitors exploring the city core.
LeBauer Park and Center City Park: These side-by-side parks offer a colorful playground, splash pad (later in the season), large lawn, outdoor art installations, and frequent community events and performances. They are ideal home bases for grabbing coffee or ice cream nearby and letting kids run off some energy.
Public art and walking: As you move between the parks and surrounding streets, you will spot murals, sculptures, and interactive art that make downtown feel like an open-air gallery. It is easy to put together your own casual walking tour.
Spring events and live music: From art openings at the Cultural Center to concerts and special programs at nearby venues, warm-weather weekends often include something happening within a few blocks. Also, check our the Music in the Park (MUSEP) series which coordinates free events June- August with food trucks and family fun activities.
If you are hosting out-of-town guests, a downtown afternoon that combines parks, art, and food is an easy way to show off the city.
Explore Culture, History, and Indoor Favorites (for Rainy Days)
Spring in North Carolina is beautiful, but it is not always dry. On those drizzly days, Greensboro’s museums and cultural spots shine.
A few go-to options include:
Greensboro Science Center: Part aquarium, part museum, and part zoo, this attraction works for kids and adults and makes a great plan-B when the forecast turns.
Greensboro History Museum: Learn how the city grew from a small crossroads town into a modern hub, with exhibits that appeal to both history buffs and casual visitors.
GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art and the Greensboro Cultural Center: Check out rotating art exhibits from North Carolina artists and explore the galleries and studios that share the building.
Pair one of these stops with a cozy café or brewery, and you have a solid spring day even if the rain does not let up.
Catch a Game or Seasonal Festival
As the season moves toward late spring, Greensboro’s calendar fills with games and festivals that feel distinctly local.
Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball: From spring through the end of summer, minor league games at the downtown ballpark are a relaxed, budget-friendly outing with fireworks nights, theme evenings, and plenty of kid-friendly fun.
Carolina Blues Festival and other spring events: May often brings outdoor music, food trucks, and seasonal festivals that tap into Greensboro’s blues and arts scene, especially around downtown and local parks.
Coliseum and Tanger Center events: Big-name concerts, performances, and special events roll through in the spring months, so it is worth checking the schedule if you want to anchor a weekend around a show.
